Chapter 83

Yun Duo jumped and let go of Tang Yi-Bai, looking up to see Lin Zi standing at the door. He had his arms crossed, looking at them evenly, his face as pale as a vampire's.

Even seeing him right now, Yun Duo still felt terribly sad. She had trusted in him as a good friend, but he had just used her in return. The important thing was that he had been really nice to her before, even helping her to get out of a tough spot. She had been so moved then, but in the end, under the lovely outer coat was just a callous truth.

Tang Yi-Bai frowned at Lin Zi. "How did you get out so quickly?"

Lin Zi entered the room. "The police have no proof. They can at most hold me for 24 hours." As he said this, his eyes remained on Yun Duo.

Yun Duo raised her head to meet his gaze. She saw that his expression was calm, his eyes cool and unruffled like a dry well. She watched as he walked over to stand before her. Yun Duo's eyes were red as she asked, "Lin Zi, have you been lying to me all this time? The only reason you got close to me was so you could hurt Tang Yi-Bai, right?"

Lin Zi looked at her, and suddenly, he snorted softly and said, "Or else?"

Yun Duo was devastated. She looked at Lin Zi like she was seeing him for the first time. Her eyes slowly turned cold as she continued staring at him.

Lin Zi turned away to break eye contact with her. He then walked around them to stand before Lin Sang's bed, where he looked down at her with gentle eyes. "Sang doesn't want to see you two. Please leave."

Yun Duo said with a cold smile, "Can't face us, more like. Because she has an unreasonable and malicious older brother!"

Lin Zi's face darkened abruptly.

Tang Yi-Bai put his arms around Yun Duo and gently patted her on the shoulder. He said, "Lin Zi, don't think that you'll get away with it."

Lin Zi quirked a brow. "Regardless of whatever you're trying to accuse me of, please provide actual proof. Besides that, Yun Duo, you think I'm unreasonable? My little sister became a vegetable because of him, and all he has suffered is a broken hand. Who exactly is being unreasonable?"

Yun Duo was furious. She broke away from Tang Yi-Bai and stepped forwards to lift her hand — smack! A slap landed on Lin Zi's face.

The slap was hard enough to turn Lin Zi's head, and a faint red hand-print instantly appeared on his face.

Tang Yi-Bai was worried that Lin Zi would hurt Yun Duo, so he quickly moved forwards to pull Yun Duo behind him. However, Yun Duo ignored him and rushed out again to stare at Lin Zi. "I didn't expect you to twist things upside down like this. Tang Yi-Bai saved Lin Sang's life. Is this how you treat your little sister's saviour? If Lin Sang knew you were doing this, she would be turning in her grave!"

Lin Zi glanced at her and then as if he had seen something immensely funny, he said, "When has he ever saved Sang? I know you're anxious to help your lover boy clear his name, but you shouldn't go so far as to make up such a clumsy lie as that, right?"

Yun Duo was surprised. "You don't know? You don't know how Tang Yi-Bai broke his leg back then?"

"He broke his leg in a car accident, and it was Sang who sent him to the hospital. And then, emotional, Sang confessed to him, but in return," here, he threw a cold look at Tang Yi-Bai, "He told Sang to go and die."

Tang Yi-Bai frowned deeply. "I absolutely did not tell Lin Sang to go die. I only said that I never wanted to see her again."

Yun Duo suddenly burst out laughing. After her laughter died down, she shook her head and said, "I understand now. I thought your sister was just a little princess with a problematic personality, but it turns out that, it's not just a personality problem, she has a character problem!"

Lin Zi face turned dark. "Shut up. You can't talk like that about Sang."

"Alright, let me ask you. Did Sang also tell you that Tang Yi-Bai took the banned medications by his own request? That she wasn't the one who had given the medication to Tang Yi-Bai?"

"Since you already know that, why bother asking me?"

Tang Yi-Bai could only shake his head when he heard this. He no longer knew what to say to all this.

Yun Duo: "You've been deceived by Lin Sang. She lied to you in order to shift the blame. You were overseas, so you had no way of understanding the whole situation, and you loved your little sister so much, so of course you'd believe whatever Lin Sang told you. But have you ever wondered what the truth really is?"

"You say my truth is wrong, but how do you know your truth is right?" asked Lin Zi, pointing at Tang Yi-Bai. "Don't you just believe him because you like him?"

"Then let me ask you. Why did Lin Sang suddenly confess to Tang Yi-Bai on the day when he broke his leg? Because she was anxious and worried? If so, wouldn't the normal response be to run around confirming his condition to find out if Tang Yi-Bai will be able to continue swimming after that? How could she be in the mood to confess at that moment?"

Lin Zi did not reply.

Yun Duo continued, "Because Tang Yi-Bai had risked his life to save her. Because of that, she mistakenly thought that Tang Yi-Bai had feelings for her too, so she confessed. Of course, the other reason was that... I'm very sorry that she became a vegetable, but I have to say that your sister really has a case of princess syndrome. She was too self-centred, all she loved was herself. At that time, she did not care at all about Tang Yi-Bai's injuries. She only cared about whether Tang Yi-Bai liked her, and so she confessed. She strongly believed that Tang Yi-Bai loved her. She thought that the love between them would be able to resolve Tang Yi-Bai's pain."

Lin Zi stared at her expressionlessly. "So what? No matter what, the end result was my sister becoming a vegetable."

"You...!" Yun Duo was so angry that she wanted to lunge forwards and beat him, but she merely sneered and said, "Why do you think Lin Sang committed suicide? Not out of embarrassment, but because of guilt! If Tang Yi-Bai really liked her, she might have been able to shamelessly bear the consequences with her thick skin, but Tang Yi-Bai did not like her at all and may have even hated her then! So she was crushed by her guilt and felt that she had made an unforgivable mistake. If it was just a simple rejection— if she would just go and commit suicide just because a guy she liked told her to 'go and die', then she must absolutely be a retarded idiot! Your little sister isn't retarded, is she?

Why do you think she lied to you about Tang Yi-Bai telling her to go and die? Tang Yi-Bai clearly just said that he never wanted to see her again. Because she herself wanted to die, but she did not even have the courage to admit that, so she put all the blame on Tang Yi-Bai. Lin Zi, your little sister is just too fragile. She has psychological issues."

"Impossible. Sang isn't like that..."

"In your eyes, of course she isn't like that, but unfortunately, this is the truth. Lin Zi, I remember you saying that your parents had passed away when you and Lin Sang were very young. You were the one who raised your sister. So, from this, Lin Sang's character was shaped by you in a direct way. You keep saying that your sister committed suicide because of Tang Yi-Bai, but in truth, it happened because of you! You did not set a good example for your sister, spoiling her instead, making her end up fragile and self-centred and a habitual liar. All of this was because of you! That's the main reason she's lying here right now! You're the one who left her like this! If you want to take revenge, why don't you stab yourself first?!"[T/N]{T/N: Damn, Yun Duo, that's savage.}

Lin Zi's face had turned ashen, and he could only shake his head mutely.

He could refuse to admit those truths, but the formation of Lin Sang's tragic flawed character was indeed rooted in his overly indulgent treatment of her. That he could not deny. He had been subconsciously avoiding this truth, whole-heartedly focused on avenging his sister. That way, perhaps the guilt within his heart could be alleviated. However, now that the truth had been exposed by Yun Duo in such a raw and bloody manner, he was completely caught off guard.

"That's why," Yun Duo said, "Lin Zi, you should hurry over to the public security bureau and turn yourself in. If you don’t, I will return a tooth for a tooth and break your sister's bones. I'll break one each day. Mark my words, I'll do it!" When she finished saying all this, she waved a hand at Tang Yi-Bai. "Let us go!"

Tang Yi-Bai followed her outside like a meek little follower. As they reached the doorway, Lin Zi suddenly called out to her, "Yun Duo."

Yun Duo halted, but did not look back.

Lin Zi asked, "You...do you truly hate me?"

"I don't hate you. I just look down on you."

Yun Duo was still fuming when they exited the hospital. Her face was as stiff as a board — when they passed by a three-year-old child, the child had been so frightened by the look on her face that he burst into tears.

Yun Duo: =?=

She glanced at Tang Yi-Bai beside her and found that he was staring intently at her, his gaze heated.

Yun Duo scratched her head sheepishly. "You...what are you looking at?"

Tang Yi-Bai suddenly pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly. His embrace was as warm and encompassing as ever. He rested one hand on her back, rubbing lightly, and the warmth of his palm spread through the thin material of her clothes to reach the surface of her skin.

Yun Duo relaxed and leaned into his embrace. She rubbed her face against his chest and said softly, "We're in public."

Tang Yi-Bai held her and refused to let go. He had a lot that he wanted to say, but his throat felt tight and his heart was boiling hot, so warm that he felt like he was about to cry. He had to bow his head and nudge against the cradle of her neck with his jaw, gently sniffing the ends of her hair as he did so.

His Duoduo, normally as meek and gentle as a rabbit, had suddenly become a berserker rabbit today. And all of it was in order to defend him. He really had to thank God. How fortunate was he to have met her and fallen in love with her, and what luck that she also loved him back. He even thought that it was enough for him to have her in his life. Even if he never got his Olympic gold, there was nothing to regret.

Duoduo, oh, my Duoduo. I will never let go in this lifetime. I will use the rest of my life to love you. I want to give all the love I am capable of in this life to you.

Tang Yi-Bai had not said anything for a long time, so Yun Duo felt a little awkward. She asked, "I was pretty cool just now, right?"

"So cool that it breaks the heavens."
